AirNet Communications
Receives $2M Follow-On Order From
Melbourne, FL, October 29, 2001 - AirNet Communications Corporation (NASDAQ: ANCC),
the technology leader in base station products for wireless
communications, has been awarded a follow-on order by TMP Corporation for
additional base station equipment. This $2 million order is the third phase of a
contract announced in March, 2001.
The newly purchased AirNet equipment, which will be delivered in 2001 and
2002, will allow TMP to further increase the capacity of its Global System for
Mobile Communication (GSM) network in Quincy, IL and surrounding areas in
response to increasing demand for wireless services. The equipment ordered
includes additional AdaptaCell™
broadband, software-defined base stations, which will provide increased
capacity within the urban areas. In addition, the order includes the AirSite®
Backhaul Free™
base stations which are designed to eliminate the need for expensive T1
services in lower density areas. Other related telecommunications equipment was
also part of the order. "AirNet continues to prove that its base station solution delivers the
highest quality voice and high-speed data services that TMP customers have come
to expect," said Walt Rowland, president of TMP. "As we continue to
expand our network, it is important for us to ensure that we purchase equipment
that seamlessly provides a path toward higher speed services and wireless
Internet applications. We have found that AirNet's high capacity and cost
effective base station solution is the only way to do this." The first phase of this contract, announced in March, was valued at $2
million with a follow-on order announced in May. The latest order brings the
total now to $5M. Additional expansion orders are expected to bring the contract
total to $7 million. "We are pleased to expand our valued relationship with TMP," said
Glenn Ehley, president and CEO, AirNet Communications. "Whether an operator
needs coverage or capacity, AirNet has the most cost-effective base station
solution available. TMP is building out its network with the industry's most
flexible software-defined radio products and this additional order highlights
the AirNet value proposition that enables our customers to cost effectively
build out their networks." The AirNet base station is a broadband, software-defined solution that allows
wireless operators to easily migrate to GPRS and EDGE using their existing
AirNet base stations by simply upgrading software. The upgrade can be performed
remotely from a network control center, dramatically reducing the cost and time
of deploying the solution to every cell site. About TMP
