AirNet Communications Receives Follow-On Orders From TMP Corporation For Additional Base Station Equipment

Melbourne, FL, May 9, 2001 - AirNet Communications Corporation (NASDAQ: ANCC), the technology leader in base station products for wireless communications, has been awarded a follow-on order by TMP Corporation for additional base station equipment. The $1 million order is the second phase of a contract announced in March 2001.

The new AirNet equipment will allow TMP to expand its Global System for Mobile Communication (GSM) network to Jacksonville, Illinois, and the surrounding area. The AirNet® gear will include additional broadband, software-defined AdaptaCell™ base stations, which will provide coverage within the urban areas; and the company’s AirSite® Backhaul Free™ base stations, designed to eliminate the need for expensive T1/E1 services in lower density regions.

"AirNet has proven that its base station solution can deliver the high-quality voice and high-speed data services that TMP customers expect and deserve," said Walt Rowland, president of TMP. "With the continued expansion of our network, it was important for us to continue down the path toward higher-speed services and wireless Internet applications. We felt the best way to do this was with AirNet’s high-capacity and cost-effective base station solution."

The first phase of the contract announced in March was valued at $2 million, with total follow-on expansion orders expected to bring the contract total to $7 million.

"AirNet’s software-defined approach continues to win in the marketplace," said Lee Hamilton, president and CEO, AirNet Communications. "We are pleased to extend our relationship with TMP, and look forward to the rapid build-out of their network for not only voice services, but for high-speed data and wireless Internet services as well."

The AirNet base station is a broadband, software-defined solution that allows wireless operators to easily migrate to GPRS or EDGE on their existing AirNet base stations by simply upgrading software. The upgrade can be performed remotely from a network control center, dramatically reducing the cost and time of deploying the solution to every cell site.

“AirNet has clearly demonstrated that its software-defined base station solution is the right choice in today’s competitive market,” said Glenn Ehley, senior vice president of worldwide sales and marketing at AirNet. “TMP is building out its network with the most flexible, cost-effective solution, and this follow-on order signifies their commitment to migrate to a higher-speed, next-generation wireless network.”
