AirNet and SouthEast Telephone Inaugurate GSM/PCS-1900

Melbourne, Florida - Southeast Telephone and AirNet Communications Corporation announced today the initiation of commercial service for Southeast Telephoneís GSM/PCS-1900 network. The infrastructure and services package included third party financing. Southeast Telephone of Pikeville, Kentucky bid successfully in the FCCís C-block auction and won a total of six Basic Trading Area (BTA) licenses.

The initial system deployment occurred in the Williamson/WV - Pikeville BTA and will continue in the other five BTAs over the next three years, namely: Bowling Green - Glasgow, Madisonville, Owensboro, Paducah - Murray - Mayfield, and Somerset.

Southeast Telephone has opted for the GSM (Global System for Mobile Communications) technology for its PCS 1900 network. GSM, the leading digital wireless standard in the world, has been chosen by over 250 service providers in 110 countries and is used by an estimated 60 million subscribers.

AirNet Communications is a leading GSM-based PCS infrastructure vendor for the C-block, providing a significant percentage of the contracted GSM systems to date. One reason for this success is AirNetís patented AirSitetm Remote Radio technology that gives regional community wireless providers, like Southeast Telephone, the ability to offer full-featured GSM service with both concentrated and distributed capacity over large coverage areas.

Another reason that Southeast Telephone was able to bring their service online, at a time when most C-block license holders have yet to construct a single site, is AirNetís Partnership Program. "AirNet provided us with the technology that fit our requirements and then helped us arrange a variety of customized financing solutions to turn our business plan into reality," said Darrell Maynard, president of Southeast Telephone.

"AirNetís unique infrastructure solutions allow us to economically provide full mobility to compete across a broad spectrum of telecommunications markets -- an absolute must in the new paradigm of PCS," remarked Alex Dade, Southeast Telephoneís vice president.

"AirNet understands that each community wireless operator has unique business needs. Our commitment to these service providers is evidenced not only by our patented technology but by our willingness and ability to facilitate financing alternatives that make business plans work," stated Warren Miller, AirNetís vice president of Financial Services.

"Southeast Telephone represents another example of AirNetís complete approach to launching community-based GSM operators," said Glenn Ehley, AirNetís vice president of Sales and Marketing. "By combining our exclusive technology with savvy financial guidance, they are now attracting subscribers and generating a return on investment."
