AirNet Communications To Display Broadband, Software-Defined Base Station Solutions at CTIA Wireless 2001; GPRS and Super Capacity Solutions Highlight the Show

LAS VEGAS, NEVADA/MELBOURNE, FL, March 13, 2001 - AirNet Communications Corporation (NASDAQ: ANCC), the technology leader in base station products for wireless communication, will be exhibiting its broadband, software-defined base station solution at the CTIA Wireless 2001 Convention and Exposition (booth #1839) March 20-22 in Las Vegas, Nevada.

In addition, Dr. Lee Hamilton, president and CEO at AirNet, will be present during the three-day event and available to discuss a variety of wireless communications and wireless Internet topics, including:

  • The AirNet® Super Capacity™ Base Station and Adaptive Array Solution
Technology and cost hurdles have played a key role in stalling the transition to the wireless Internet. Urban areas are running out of capacity, and operators must get more capacity from their existing frequencies. The only real option available today is with the AirNet® AdaptaCell™ Super Capacity™ solution. AirNet has partnered with ArrayComm to offer the industryís first super capacity base station using adaptive array technology. This software-defined solution, which provides twice the capacity and twice the data rate of existing base stations, achieves extraordinary gains in spectral efficiency by focusing radio signals on individual handset antennas instead of broadcasting them throughout the cell. Without products like this, many operators will not have enough capacity to deploy wireless Internet services.

  • The AirNet® GPRS Solution
The news out of the recent GSM World Congress was that third generation (3G) implementation could be years away in most countries. In the mean time, more and more operators will be turning to GPRS to provide wireless Internet services. AirNet has recently announced the deployment of one of the first GPRS solutions in the US, and has successfully shown that itís equipment can support full speed GPRS, and is today, putting operators on the path to high-speed data services and ultimately the wireless Internet.

  • AirNet - The Base Station Technology Leader
AirNet is a leader in wireless base stations and other telecommunications equipment that enables operators to cost-effectively offer high-speed wireless Internet and voice services to mobile subscribers.

AirNet is the base station technology leader, with:

  • The Only Base Station with a Software Upgrade Path to the Wireless Internet
  • The Only Base Station Which Offers Twice the Capacity and Twice the Data Rate, and
  • The Only Base Station That Provides Cost-Effective Coverage

The companyís patented broadband, software-defined AdaptaCell™ base station solution provides a high-capacity base station with a software upgrade path to the wireless Internet. The Company's AirSite® Backhaul Free™ base station carries wireless voice and data signals back to the wireline network, eliminating the need for a physical backhaul link, thus reducing operating costs.

AirNet has 69 patents issued or pending and has received the coveted World Award for Best Technical Innovation from the GSM Association, representing over 400 operators around the world.

The company has averaged more than double revenue growth each of the past four years. In addition, the company continues to receive extremely positive reaction to its products and remains well positioned for strong growth in the larger operator and international segments. Recent customer announcements include two GPRS agreements, and five agreements with major operators throughout the world, including one in North America.
