AirNet Announces Additional GSM Infrastructure Orders With MBO Wireless
Melbourne, Florida -Ė AirNet Communications Corporation (NASDAQ: ANCC) announced today that it received additional orders totaling approximately $1 million from MBO Wireless, Inc., a wireless service provider based in Warner, Oklahoma.
AirNet will supply GSM (Global System for Mobile Communications) infrastructure equipment for use in the Muskogee, Oklahoma, Basic Trading Area (BTA). These new orders were placed under terms of a contract signed with MBO in 1998. AirNet is currently deploying equipment for use in the Stillwater, Oklahoma BTA under the first phase of this contract.
The equipment to be supplied by AirNet includes AdaptaCell broadband, software-defined Base Transceiver Stations (BTSs) and AirSite® Backhaul Free Base Stations.
"With AirNetís backhaul-free infrastructure, we are able to rapidly build out our network at a minimal cost," said V. David Miller II, president of MBO Wireless. "The AirSite lets us quickly and easily deploy base stations without the added recurring cost of a T1 line. Additionally, we were impressed with AirNetís broadband technology and software-defined upgrade path from GSM to GPRS to EDGE and then to 3G."
"Like many other wireless operators MBO sees the 'today and tomorrow' advantages of the AirNet Base Station Subsystem," said Dr. Lee Hamilton, president and CEO of AirNet. "Operators can enjoy the backhaul-free advantage of the AirSite today while being able to support high-speed data protocols like GPRS and EDGE through simple software upgrades tomorrow."
"It is particularly gratifying when an existing customer places additional orders with us," said Glenn Ehley, AirNetís vice president of Sales and Marketing. "At AirNet, our first commitment is to provide total customer satisfaction and I am pleased that MBO continues to show confidence in our ability to deliver cost-effective GSM infrastructure today thatís ready to support tomorrowís high-speed data and Internet services."
AirNet Communications Corporation provides wireless base stations and other telecommunications equipment designed to allow service operators to cost-effectively offer simultaneous wireless high-speed Internet and voice services to mobile subscribers. The Company's AdaptaCell incorporates a patented radio architecture that is designed to enable operators to offer these services by upgrading base station software rather than deploying new base station hardware. The Company's AirSite® Backhaul Free Base Station carries wireless voice and data signals back to the wireline network without a physical communications link - usually a digital T-1 phone line. As a result, an operator's fixed network operating costs may decrease substantially.
